About

The Michigan Coalition on Black Civic Participation (MCBCP) is a non-profit organization that serves as a proud branch of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation. Our goal is to expand, strengthen, and empower our communities to make civic and community engagement a cultural responsibility and lasting tradition.

We believe that true civic participation includes the right to economic dignity. In Michigan, too many Black and marginalized families are struggling to make ends meet due to low wages, systemic barriers, and unequal access to opportunity. MCBCP is committed to advancing economic justice and fighting for a living wage for all—because every worker deserves to thrive, not just survive.

Through civic engagement, education, and advocacy, we build collective power to transform our communities—connecting the fight for voting rights and representation to the fight for fair pay, affordable housing, and access to quality jobs. By working together, we are shaping a Michigan where equity, justice, and opportunity are not just ideals, but everyday realities for Black Michiganders and all working people. Our goal is to expand, strengthen and empower our communities to make civic and community engagement a cultural responsibility and lasting tradition.
